Here you can find all soundfiles available for the LokSound Select decoder. For downloading these files to your LokSound Select decoder, you will need the latest LokProgrammer software. Make sure that you have the latest version on your computer.
Many of the LokSound Select Sounds are recently recorded sounds. These sounds were edited with the most technologically advanced sound decoders in mind! The LokSound V4.0 and LokSound Select decoders! These Premium Sound profiles take advantage of all that the LokSound Select has to offer. Many LokSound Select Sounds contain up to 4 DIFFERENT Prime Mover or Steam Sounds on one decoder! These can be selected using CV48. No programmer needed. See LokSound Select Instruction Manual for more info. If the sound has more than one prime mover, more information will be listed in the details tab.
All LokSound Select decoders include up to 16 horns or whistles, 2 different brake squeals, and 2 different bells or bell rates.

As a General Reference:
ANY LokSound Select Sound file can be written to ANY LokSound Select decoder. This means you can write a Micro(N Scale) 738xx file to an 8 pin or 21MTC Select, and alternately a 734xx(HO Scale) file to a Micro or Select Direct decoder. The ESU LokProgrammer software will recognize the difference and ask you to proceed. By Accepting you are giving the permission needed for the LokProgrammer to automatically make the conversion needed. However, these files cannot be altered for use with other ESU decoders. They are intended to be used with LokSound Select decoders only.
1. GRANT OF LICENSE
1.1 ESU grants you a non-transferable, limited, non-exclusive right to use the Content solely for your own personal purposes. You may load the Content into RAM, as well as installation on a hard disk or other storage device on a single computer, hardware product or mobile device owned by you or under your control. The installation process may result in a copy of the Content residing on your computer, in which case, you may retain one (1) copy of the Content on your computer, provided that you retain all copyright and other proprietary notices on the copy and the copy is kept in your possession with the original.
1.2 By using the Content, you shall not obtain any ownership, copyright, proprietary or other interest in or to the Content. The Content is licensed, not sold.
1.3 You are licensed to use, modify and combine the Sound Samples with sound samples provided by third parties, to create your own sound compositions which, subject to you complying with the terms of this Agreement, you are free to distribute as you wish provided that: (i) the Sound Samples have been mixed together to create an original work; (ii) individual Sound Samples are not used in isolation and (iii) the Sound Samples or derivatives are not used to create sound libraries for distribution to third parties.
2. PROHIBITED USES
Neither you, nor anyone at your direction, shall:
2.1 use the Content, or any part of it, for any public performance, live broadcast or time delayed live broadcast where the Content is used unattended for commercial purposes without ESU\'s prior written consent;
2.2 use the Content, or any part of it, in any competitive product;
2.3 sub-license, copy, reproduce, transmit, assign, rent, sell, lease, offer on a pay-per-play basis, distribute for money or any other consideration, or commercially exploit in any other manner or through any medium whatsoever or otherwise transfer in any way the Content or any part thereof;
2.4 manufacture and/or distribute for money or otherwise commercially exploit any product that incorporates any part of the Content. If you wish to use any part of the Content for manufacture, resale, sub-license or further distribution, you must contact ESU (and where relevant, its licensors) to enter into an appropriate agreement with ESU (and, where relevant, its licensors);
2.5 publish the results of any analysis or comparative evaluation of the Content or any part thereof without ESU\'s prior written consent;
2.6 reverse engineer, recompile or disassemble any part of the Content except to the extent and in the circumstances expressly permitted by ESU and its licensors in writing or by law;
3. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
You acknowledge that all intellectual property rights in the Content are and shall remain vested in ESU and its licensors. You undertake not to interfere with or diminish, whether by act or omission, the rights, title and interest in the Content of ESU and its licensors. You may be held responsible by ESU and/or any of its licensors for any infringement of any intellectual property rights in the Content. For the avoidance of doubt, provided that you comply with the terms of this Agreement, ESU shall not claim ownership of the intellectual property rights in any compositions created by your use of the Content.
4. TERM AND TERMINATION
This Agreement is effective from the first date you install the Content. The rights granted to you under this Agreement shall terminate if you fail to abide by its terms. Upon such termination you agree to destroy the Content including any Content stored on the hard disk of any computer under your control. You may terminate this Agreement at any time by destroying or erasing all your copies of the Content. Any termination of this Agreement (howsoever occasioned) shall not affect any accrued rights or liabilities of you or ESU nor shall it affect the coming into force or the continuance in force of the provisions of Clauses 2, 3, 5 and 6 and any provision hereof which is by implication intended to come into or continue in force on or after such termination.
5. NO WARRANTIES
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ESU AND ITS LICENSORS PROVIDE THE CONTENT "AS IS" AND ESU EXCLUDES ON BEHALF OF ITSELF AND ITS LICENSORS, ALL CONDITIONS, TERMS, REPRESENTATIONS (OTHER THAN FRAUDULENT REPRESENTATIONS) AND WARRANTIES RELATING TO THE CONTENT, WHETHER IMPOSED BY STATUTE OR BY OPERATION OF LAW OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF SATISFACTORY QUALITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. NEITHER ESU NOR ITS LICENSORS WARRANT THAT THE OPERATION OF THE CONTENT WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR FREE, VIRUS FREE OR MEET YOUR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. YOU MAY HAVE OTHER RIGHTS THAT VARY FROM JURISDICTION TO JURISDICTION.
6. ESU\'s LIABILITY
Neither ESU nor its licensors shall have any liability to you for any loss or damage caused directly or indirectly in connection with the Content, any part thereof or this Agreement, except to the extent that such liability cannot be lawfully excluded. In any case, neither ESU nor its licensors shall be liable for any loss of business, data, profits, savings, or any other special, incidental, consequential, indirect or economic loss whatsoever even if such losses were contemplated at the date of this Agreement.
7. GENERAL
7.1 You acknowledge that damages alone might be insufficient remedy for any breach of the terms of this Agreement and that the remedies of injunction, specific performance or other equitable relief would be suitable remedies in the event of any breach or threatened breach of this Agreement.
7.2 You may not assign or otherwise transfer all or any part of this Agreement or the rights granted to you hereunder.
7.3 ESU is not obliged to provide any maintenance, technical support or upgrades to you.
7.4 You agree to comply with all applicable import and export regulations and acknowledge that you have the responsibility for obtaining all necessary licenses to export, re-export, transfer or import the Content.
7.5 This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and ESU with respect to the subject matter hereof and supersedes all prior agreements, arrangements and understandings between the parties and constitutes the entire agreement between the parties relating to such subject matter hereof. No addition to or modification of any provision of this Agreement shall be binding upon ESU and you unless made by a written instrument signed by a duly authorized representative of ESU and you.
7.6 No forbearance, delay or indulgence by either party in enforcing the provisions of this Agreement shall prejudice or restrict the rights of that party nor shall any waiver of its rights operate as a waiver of any subsequent breach and no right, power or remedy herein conferred upon or reserved for either party is exclusive of any other right, power or remedy available to that party and each such right, power or remedy shall be cumulative.
7.7 Notwithstanding that the whole or any part of any provision of this Agreement may prove to be illegal or unenforceable the other provisions of this Agreement and the remainder of the provision in question shall remain in full force and effect.

The ALCO 251 prime mover was the most popular and abundant prime mover ever made by the company. While it proved to be quite successful, it sadly outlived its original manufacturer, ALCO who closed their doors in 1969. The 251 prime mover is actually still available to purchase today from Fairbanks Morse for use in Marine, Generator, and locomotive uses.

As the EMD 567s got worn, Many Railroads underwent rebuild programs to prolong the life of their locomotives. One Program in particular was the Uceta GP-16 program on the SCL. Starting in 1979 they took many of their GP7s, GP9s, and GP18s and replaced the existing 567 prime movers with 16cyl 645C Power Assemblies. This combination resulted in a unique sound never before released in the Model Railroad Market.
There were a number of these rebuild programs by many railroads. CN Had GP9RMs, The DM&IR had SD-Ms rebuilt from SD9's and SD18's and others. While there were different Exhuast configurations, This file will be very close to the following locomotives:

The EMD 567 16cyl Prime Mover was one of the most widely used Prime Movers in the world! From F-Units to Geeps this popular power house can still be found in many locomotives riding the rails today.
We have provided 2 versions of the prime mover in the sound file.
With Transition and without Manual Transition!
Transition is the process by which the transmission of a diesel-electric locomoitve is brought from series wiring to parallel wiring. When in series, all current in the locomotive pass through all motors: this produces maximum low-speed force in the motors, i.e., maximum starting torque. When in parallel, current is divided among the motors: this produces maximum high-end efficency, i.e., highest motor speed. In the Early EMD 567 prime movers this could be done manually. There was a throttle lever and a transition lever on the control stands. When the engineer made transition there was a very distinct sounds of the prime mover winding down to idle then up again quickly from Idle to the throttle notch. Not all locomotives can make transition -- yard locomotives are often wired only for series. Also many locomotives were equipped with automatic transitions that occured at a high rate of speed. This classic sound of "Manual Transition" is not heard in these engines the same way as it is in the early 567s. In Fact, it is best to check your prototype as this manual transistion sound could arguably be stated to be wrong for more than it is right for! Due to this fact we have made our sound with the ability to switch between these options so you can have the proper prime mover sounds for your prototype. By simply changing 1 CV (CV 48) you can choose one or the other.
As with All Select sound files this contains up to 16 different Horns, including so newly edited ones!

The EMD 710 is a line of diesel engines built by Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD). Introduced in 1985, the 710 series replaced the earlier EMD 645 series. Since its introduction, EMD has continually upgraded the 710G diesel engine. Power output has increased from 3,800 horsepower on 1985's 16-710G3A to 4,500 horsepower on 2012's 16-710G3C-T2. Over the production span of certain locomotive models, upgraded engine models have been fitted when these became available. For example, an early 1994-built SD70MAC had a 16-710G3B, whereas a later 2003-built SD70MAC would have a 16-710G3C-T1.

The EMD 645 family of diesel engines were designed and manufactured by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. The 645 series was an evolution of the earlier 567 series and a precursor to the later 710 series. The 645 series engines entered production in 1965. All 645 engines utilize forced induction, with either a Roots blower or a turbocharger. The 645 series has a maximum engine speed of between 900 and 950 revolutions per minute (rpm), an increase over the 800 to 900 rpm maximum speed for the 567 series.

*EMD 710-20Cyl - SD80MAC*
The SD80MAC is a 5000 horsepower C-C diesel-electric locomotive. The SD80MAC uses a 20 cylinder version of EMD's 710G prime mover,formally known as the V-20 710G3B-ES and is the first diesel locomotive to use a 20-cylinder engine since the SD45/SD45-2. The SD80MAC introduced a wide radiator housing similar to GE locomotives and the placement of dynamic brakes at the rear of the locomotive. Key spotting difference between the SD80MAC and SD90MAC include: no external rear sandbox on the 90MAC, rear number boards, and the placement of the front numberboards (above the cab windows on the SD80MAC, on the nose on most SD90MACs). The SD80MAC also has recessed red marker lights in the nose, an identifying feature unique to Conrail locomotives, although NS has removed the lights on most of their former Conrail engines.

The GE "Genesis" series of Locomotives was developed to be the main locomotives for Amtrak. Amtraks EMD F40PH locomotives were aging fast and GE came to the rescue with a more powerful and more fuel efficient design. Some P42 Locomotives were built with a Dual Mode capability utilizing a 3rd Rail shoe for collecting electricity. These engines run on the North East Corridor on Amtrak and on Metro North. The ESU version is the DC model which is much more common. It can be used to represent the P42s used by Amtrak, Via, NJT and Conn DOT. It can also be used in the non-electrified Areas of Metro North.
The P42 has a Very Specific Sound set. No Generic GE sound is correct for it. We have gone out of our way to make sure the sound we provide is as accurate as possible. We’ve even had the opportunity to take a cab in a P42 and take note of exactly how the engine was operated so that we could produce a sound that is absolutely true to the prototype.

Norfolk & Western used Y6-class locomotives primarily for slower, heavy freight trains in the more mountainous districts. Although they were used throughout the N&W, their primary work occurred on the Pocahontas, Radford, and Shenandoah Divisions. They mostly hauled manifest freight and coal trains.
When Diesel locomotives took over the main-line steam operations, the Y6-type locomotives spent their last two years mostly on mine and other coal-field runs.

The Iconic GG-1 is known around the world as the American Electric Streamliner. Built by GE and the famous Pennsylvania Railroad Altoona Shops the GG-1s were constructed between 1934 to 1943. Operating in a multitude of paint schemes the GG-1s ran on PRR, Penn Central, Conrail, Amtrak, and NJT. Primarily they ran on the North East Corridor between New York City and Washington DC. They did occasionally see service on other electric lines around the north east United States.
Though the GG-1 was relatively quiet compared to its diesel electric cousins our ESU version includes correct GG-1 A-200 Air horns, Proper GG-1 Bells, Sounds of the pantographs going up and down, transformer sounds, traction motor fans, traction motor gear whine, random compressor, new air release and brake squeal sounds, curve squeal, and track sounds.
The ESU LokSound Select version includes 4 Horns and 2 bells all changeable by using CV48.

EMD 16-645F Possible uses... GP40X, GP50, SD40X, and SD50s
The EMD 645 family of diesel engines was designed and manufactured by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. Developed from the earlier 567 series engines, the 645 series engines entered production in 1965. All 645 engines are two-stroke 45 degree V-engines. Each cylinder is of 645 cubic inches (10.57 liters) displacement, hence the name; with a bore of nine and one-sixteenth inches (230.2 mm), a stroke of ten inches (254 mm) and a compression ratio of 14.5:1. Cylinders in each V-pair are directly opposite each other, allowing "fork" connecting rods for one bank of cylinders as all rods are always in compression throughout both engine cycles (competitor General Electric uses the more complicated "articulated" connecting rods as all rods are alternately in compression or tension throughout all four engine cycles and the simpler "fork" connecting rods cannot operate in tension).

Baldwin 606SC and 606A Prime Movers were used in quite a few Baldwin prototypes.
DS-4-4-1000, RS-12, S-12, DRS-6-4-1000, DRS-4-4-1000, DR-6-2-1000, DT-6-6-2000, RT-624, DR-6-4-2000, DR-6-2-1000.
Though not quite correct the 606SC/606A Prime Mover sounds very similar to the 608SC/608A Prime movers This would be appropriate for:
DRS-6-4-1500, DRS-4-4-1500, DRS-6-6-1500, AS-416, AS-16, AS-616, DR-6-4-1500, DR-4-4-1500 and the RF-16(Sharknose).

*GE Cat-44*
The GE 44-ton switcher is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Electric between 1940 and 1956. The locomotives were available with a choice of prime movers. Most were built with a pair of Caterpillar Inc.'s D17000 V8 180 horsepower (134 kW) engines. It was designed for industrial and light switching duties, often replacing steam locomotives that had previously been assigned these chores. This locomotive's specific 44-short ton weight was directly related to one of the efficiencies the new diesel locomotives offered compared to their steam counterparts: reduced labour intensity. In the 1940s, the steam to diesel transition was in its infancy in North America, and railroad unions were trying to protect the locomotive fireman jobs that were redundant with diesel units. One measure taken to this end was a stipulation that locomotives weighing 90,000 pounds (41,000 kg) or more required a fireman in addition to an engineer. The 44-ton locomotive was born to skirt this requirement. Other manufacturers also built 44-ton switchers of center-cab configuration. 348 examples of this locomotive were built for North American railroads. Many remain, in service and in museums.

*FM 6cyl 38D*
One of the last to enter the US locomotive market and one of the first to leave, Fairbanks Morse is a historical manufactur known throughout the wold for their renouned oppsing piston prime movers. Maybe best know for the FM Trainmaster locomotives, Fairbanks Morse is still in business today as a Producer of Marine engines used in ships and submarines.
Not many examples remain and only a few of those are operational in the FM locomotive line. Many of the locomotives that are still running are mere six cylinder versions. FM produced 6cyl, 8cyl, 10cyl and 12cyl locomotives while producing for the railroad market.
Some examples of FM locomotives are:
Erie Builts, C-Liners(built by FM and Canadian subsidiary CLC), H-10-44, H-12-44, CLC H-12-46, H-15-44, H-16-44, H-20-44, H-16-66(Baby Trainmaster), H-24-66(Trainmaster).
Please note:
This file has a special Cold and Failed start that happen randomly. The Cold Start sequeance will happen the first time you turn this on. ONCE IN A WHILE during this cold start sequence the Prime Mover will fail to start and automatically retry. If the prime mover fails to start it is set up to start on the second try. Once started and then turned off a timer will begin. If the engine is started again before this timer expires it will then start with a warm start. If the timer has expired the engine will start the cycle over again with a cold start.
F14 will disable the cold and failed start sequence giving only the warm start option.

*EMD F40PH*
The EMD F40PH is equipped with a turbocharged EMD 645E3 V16 cylinder, two-stroke Prime mover. A standard F40PH has a gear ratio of 57:20 allowing a top speed of 103 mph (166 km/h). To support passenger service, the F40PH has another electrical alternator known as the head end power unit.(HEP) The HEP unit generates three-phase AC power at 480 V AC, 750 A or about 500 kW to provide power to the passenger cars for lighting, heating, and air conditioning. Originally F40PHs all powered the HEP alternator from the 16-645E3 prime mover; head end power must be delivered to the train at a constant frequency, so the prime mover had to turn at a constant 900 RPM while supplying head end power (even if the locomotive was standing still with the throttle in Idle). Power to the traction motors was controlled by varying the field excitation of the main (traction) generator. If the HEP was turned on the F40PH ran in Notch 8 all the time. Sitting still or moving at full speed. If the HEP was turned off (while switching perhaps) The prime mover went through the notches like normal. Idle through 8.
Our new F40PH sound is that of an as built F40PH with a shaft driven HEP which can be turned on and off accordingly. It also has Stand-by mode which is used in stations to drop the PM enough that the HEP is still able to be used, yet Fuel savings and noise is more control while not moving. One thing to note is that if 2 F40Ph's were on a train only the engine closest to the cars should have the HEP running.
Many of the F40PH's were rebuilt over the years. If by chance you are modeling a Rebuilt F40PH which may have a Caterpillar HEP unit you should not use this file, but rather the F40PH rebuilt/MP36PH-3C file as it will have the proper sounds and sound schedule for that engine.
Including a brand new F40PH K5LA horn, as with all Select decoders there are a total of 16 separate horns, 2 separate brake squeals, and 2 bells included on this one sound profile! All changeable using CV48Article number(s): 73330, 73430, 73830

*MP40PH-3C*
The MPXpress line of locomotives were the first production passenger locomotives to meet EPA Tier 1 and Tier 2 emissions regulations, as well as FRA safety regulations regarding crashworthiness and fire safety. Numerous public transit agencies in Canada and the United States have ordered MPXpress locomotives for their commuter rail services. To date only GO Transit have MP40PH-3C in Service but Sounder Commutr Rail in Seattle does have an order pending for 3 Units.
The prime mover used in the MP40PH-3C is a EMD 16-710GB. The Prototype has a seperate HEP unit for providing Power to the Passengers. This sound is also available in the in this file as a user dependant function that can turned on and off as needed. (Usually if 2 engines are used only the engine closest to the cars will have the HEP unit running)
These Locomotives are used Daily in "Push-Pull" service and are set up to do so as default in this decoder as well. Operating Front and rear red lights and Headlight/Ditchlights are set accordingly as default.
True Line Trains has produced a Fantastic HO model Of the MP40PH-3C and comes factory equipped with an ESU LokSound Select decoder. This file is used in the Model.Article number(s): 73328, 73428, 73828
