LokSound 5 Fx

The LokSound 5 Fx represents a unique feature within the LokSound family: it has NO MOTOR OUTPUT and is specially designed for use in control cars (Cab Cars) or power cars that require sound but lack a motor and thus are not powered themselves. By omitting the motor component, it offers all the sound features of the other LokSound 5 members, yet measures just 21.5mm x 15.5mm.

LokSound 5 Fx decoders are offered with an 8-pin NEM652 or 21MTC interface and always come with an 11 x 15 mm "sugar cube" speaker and speaker enclosure kit.

Operating Modes

Like all family members, the LokSound 5 Fx is a true multi-protocol decoder. It supports the DCC data format as well as Motorola®, Selectrix® and M4. In DCC format, 14, 28, or 128 speed steps are as standard as Short and Long addresses and up to 32 functions. With RailComPlus® technology, the decoders register fully automatically with a suitable digital command station such as an ESU ECoS or CabControl.

It supports all DCC programming modes and can be both operated and programmed with compatible digital command stations: Thanks to RailCom®, CV values can be read on the main track with suitable command stations. Auxiliary CVs are available for command stations that can only program the CVs from 1-255.

Motorola® users benefit from up to 28 speed steps with 255 addresses. Three additional Motorola® addresses allow the triggering of 16 functions. A built-in programming mode also enables reprogramming with the venerable Control Unit 6021.

The M4 protocol allows automatic registration to mfx®-compatible command stations. The LokSound 5 Fx Decoder recognizes the Märklin® brake sections as well as ZIMO® HLU brake commands or the Lenz® ABC system. Braking with DCC brake modules or with DC voltage is also possible. It also stops when a Selectrix® brake diode is activated. An ABC shuttle train system enables automatic shuttle operation between two stations.

The LokSound 5 decoder can be used on analog DC and AC railways.

The decoder switches between operating modes fully automatically "on-the-fly". In most cases, no adjustment is required.

Sound

The LokSound 5 Fx decoder can play up to 12 channels simultaneously. Each channel can be resolved with up to 16 bits / 31250 kHz, providing hi-fi quality on your layout. There is practically no audible difference from the original recordings. A Class-D audio amplifier with up to 3W output power drives the speakers, which can have an impedance between 4 ohms and 32 ohms. A 128 Mbit sound memory provides sufficient capacity.

The volume of all individual sounds can be individually adjusted. The super-flexible sound engine, without a rigid sequence plan, allows for the prototypical simulation of all conceivable rail vehicles.

Functions

The control car and the power car also have a number of lights to be controlled. Therefore, we equipped the LokSound 5 Fx with 6 powered function outputs for lights. The version with the 21MTC interface has 6 additional outputs for controlling servos or logic level outputs. All important lighting functions are available. The brightness of each output can be adjusted separately.

NO Motor Control

Although the LokSound 5 Fx itself DOES NOT have a motor output itself, it still "simulates" one. This serves to synchronize with the powered vehicle, where ideally a "full-fledged" LokSound 5 decoder performs its duties. This ensures that the brake squeal occurs simultaneously within a train, or that the lights change direction simultaneously.

Operational Safety

A PowerPack can be connected to the LokSound 5 Fx to bridge dirty track sections if desired.

Protection

The outputs are naturally protected against overload. We want you to enjoy your decoder for as long as possible.
